Obituary Condolences

DWIGHT KLEIST, JR. Dwight Edward Kleist, Jr., 91, a resident of Telford for over 60 years, passed away December 23, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services in Montgomeryville. He was the husband of the late Arlene Marie (Bulow) Kleist, who passed away in 2005. Born September 25, 1920, in Scranton, he was the only son of the late Dwight E. and Harriett E. (Jones) Kleist. He was a 1938 graduate of Souderton High School, where he served as secretary of his senior class. He attended the Pennsylvania Military Academy and the Annapolis Naval Academy. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran stationed in Germany. Mr. Kleist was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Telford for more than 36 years. He was a member of MacCalla Lodge No.596 of Souderton, where he was secretary for many years, as well as serving as Worshipful Master in 1978. He was a 32nd-degree Mason with the Lehigh Consistory. A rifle and deer-hunting enthusiast, Mr. Kleist was an Olympic-class rifleman and a charter member of the Souderton-Harleysville Gun Club. In 1941, he received a trophy for being the Southeastern U.S. Small-Bore Rifle Champion at the national tournament held at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, OH. Surviving is his only child, David A. Kleist, and his wife, Lisa Zver, of Emmaus; three sisters, Dorothea H. (Dottie) Rowden of Santa Rosa, CA, G. Elizabeth (Bette) Olson of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Shirley J. Burch of Silver Springs, MD; as well as four nieces and one nephew. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11AM Friday, Dec. 30, at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford (Franconia Twp.), with Masonic Services beginning at 10:45AM. Friends may call for the viewing from 10 to 10:45AM. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Souderton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Indian Valley Public Library, 100 E.
