Elvin R Souder Obituary
ELVIN SOUDER Elvin R. Souder, 94, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Esther "Patty" Souder, in 2000. They had been married 59 years Mr. Souder was born April 9, 1918 in his home on Walnut Street in Souderton. He was a graduate of Souderton High School (1935), Swarthmore College (1939) and University of Pennsylvania Law School (1942). Following law school, he did his alternative service during WWII with the Mennonite Central Committee helping Russian Mennonites in Paraguay. Upon his return, he practiced law on East Broad Street in Souderton from 1947 until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Souder was very active in the community. He served on the boards of Zion Mennonite Church and Dock Woods Community. He was a founding board member of Penn Foundation. He also served as the Souderton Borough Solicitor from 1954 to 2006 and was a director of Union National Bank. He was part owner of the family's business, a retail fabric store, The Souder Store, in Souderton. He is also predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Francis Souder in 2007 and Dr. Lawrence Souder in 2008. Mr. Souder is survived by two daughters, Jane Souder Loose and her husband, John Loose, of Nantucket, MA and Louise Patterson Limbert and her husband, Paul Limbert, of Wheeling, WV; four grandchildren, Tom Loose, Steve Loose, Susan McCardle and Mike Limbert; as well as, nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of his remarkable life will be Saturday, November 24, at 11AM at Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton - followed by a time to greet the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Mennonite Church, 149 East Cherry Lane, Souderton, PA 18964.
