Obituary Condolences

GEORGE ABELE, JR. George F. Abele, Jr., 87, of Horsham, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Lilian (Williams) Abele, his wife of 64 years. Born March 27, 1925, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late George and Martha (Freed) Abele. Mr. Abele was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country honorably during World War II. While stationed in England, he met his future wife. Over the next sixty years, they enjoyed sharing their wartime experiences as presenters to many local groups. Mr. Abele practiced as a tax accountant for many years, retiring in 2004. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jamison. Mr. Abele was a life member of the national American Legion, VFW, and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a dedicated volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, having served as the original Scoutmaster for Troop 331 (Lutheran Settlement House), Philadelphia, and Assistant Scoutmaster and Explorer Advisor for Troop 410, Prospectville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Edward D. Abele and wife, Mary, of Suquamish, WA, Peter W. Abele and wife, Kathy, of Hatfield, and William J. Abele of York; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Hofeinz of St. Louis, MO; and a brother, James Abele of Walnut Creek, CA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Kleinstuber. The Memorial Service will be held 1PM Wednesday, May 9, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. Relatives and friends may call after 12 noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to North Penn VNA Hospice, 51 Medical Campus Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446 or Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2100 York Road, Jamison, PA 18929.
