Harry M. Rutherford Obituary
HARRY RUTHERFORD Harry M. Rutherford, 82, of Lansdale, went to be with the Lord, February 20, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Louise (Bienas) Rutherford, to whom he was married to for over 61 years. Born February 8, 1931, in Lansdale, he was the son of the late Thomas and Thelma (Brelsford) Rutherford. Harry was a 1949 graduate of the former Lansdale High School. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was the Hatfield Township Tax Collector and Treasurer for 32 years from 1962 to 1994. He also served as a Hatfield Township Commissioner for Ward 5 and was appointed to the Hatfield Township Municipal Authority. Harry was the President of North American Medical Centers, Inc., which owned and operated Nursing Homes in Pennsylvania. After his retirement, he was the Property Manager at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, North Wales, where he was a member. He supervised the construction of the MMR School and Administration Building. He also supervised the construction of St. Helena Church, Blue Bell and the addition to St. Jude's School, Chalfont. Harry was a Charter Member of the Hatfield Historical Society. He was also a Man of Malvern since 1958, as well as a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas J. (Lynda), Joseph R. (Kathleen), Edmund J. (Eloise), Marylou, and Luanne; his grandchildren, Anne (Eric), James, and Nathaniel; and his dear friend, Joseph "D". Harry is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Clarenbach and Barbara Weiss, and his brother, David Rutherford (Antoinette). He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Rutherford, Richard Rutherford, and Robert Rutherford, and his sisters, Dorothy Rutherford and Jeannette Fenstermacher. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass 11AM, Monday, Feb. 25, at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA 19454 (Montgomery Twp.). His viewing will take place 6 to 8PM, Sunday, Feb. 24, and 9:30 to 11AM, Monday, Feb. 25, both at the church. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harry's memory may be made to the Mary Mother of the Redeemer Education Endowment Fund at the above address.
