James N. Wagner Obituary
JAMES WAGNER James N. Wagner, 79, of Colmar died January 27, 2012 at Abington Health Lansdale Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He had been in failing health. Jim was born and raised in Royal Oak, MI, the son of the late Anthony J. and Ruth M. (Rice) Wagner. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950 where he was a High School All-American football player and outstanding all-around athlete. He attended the University of Detroit on a baseball and football scholarship, and graduated in the class of 1955. Jim taught History and Math at St. Mary's before entering the business world. He worked in Marketing, and later began a career in Sales for Huck Mfg. Co. of Waco, TX, retiring in 1998. When he was transferred to the Philadelphia area in 1970, Jim and his wife Marilyn chose to settle in the Lansdale area to attend St. Stanislaus Church and send their boys to both St. Stan's and Lansdale Catholic High School. Jim was an active and dedicated member of St. Stanislaus Church where he volunteered in many areas, including the annual Summer Festival and more than 20 years of service at the weekly parish Bingo game. He coached basketball at St. Stan's in the 1970's and later coached LC's freshman football team. All four of his sons both played for and later coached the football teams at LC. Jim was a hard working member of the Lansdale Catholic Father's Club and supported all the LC teams for 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Gallagher Council, in Royal Oak. Jim was an avid fan of the University of Michigan and Notre Dame football teams. He loved to play golf, and in 2004 accomplished the rare feat of a hole-in-one. He was a great guy whose absence will be profoundly felt by his family, friends and community. Surviving is his beloved wife of 57 years, Marilyn (Newberry) Wagner and four devoted sons, John Wagner and his wife, Jeaninne, of Durham, NC, Fred Wagner and his wife, Helen, of Bethlehem, Jim Wagner and his wife, Patricia, of Harleysville, and Mike Wagner and his wife, Angela, of Lansdale; six granddaughters, Dawn, Christin, Colleen, Genevieve, Suzanne, and Margaret; and one grandson, Matthew. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Anthony, William, Robert, John and Thomas Wagner; and sisters, Elizabeth Daly, Kathryn Flynn and Grace Heupel. Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9PM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., in Lansdale and Wednesday morning from 9 to 9:45AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10AM. Interment will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery. For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Jim's name to St. Stanislaus Elementary School (for tuition assistance), 493 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, or to the Lansdale Catholic High School Scholarship Fund, 700 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446.
