Obituary Condolences

JOHN CRAWFORD John A. Crawford, 91, of Hatfield, formerly of Browns Mills, NJ, passed away March 29, 2012 at Dock Terrace, Lansdale. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to the late Irma (Cekan) Crawford, who passed away in 2009. Born in Packard, KY, he was the eldest son of the late Caney and Lora Jane (Roller) Crawford. John proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army for over 31 years. His tours of duty included the WWII Pacific Theater and also Vietnam. In 1948, while stationed in Germany, he met his late wife, Irma. After retiring from active military service as a staff sergeant, John resided in Browns Mills, NJ for over 35 years and worked as a toll collector at Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Bridge for 12 years. His hobbies included fishing, and playing cards (especially rummy). A fan of baseball, John enjoyed both the Phillies and Cincinnati Reds. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his beloved boxer dog, Flora, who preceded John in death earlier this month. John is survived by his daughter, Sharon Podulka and her husband, Damon, of Hatfield; his youngest brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Geneva Crawford of Guntersville, AL; and a sister, Gladys Rains of Williamsburg, KY. In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to call after 10 AM Wednesday, April 4 at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, where a Memorial Service will take place at 11 AM. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Living Branches Foundation, Dock Woods/Dock Meadows Sharing Fund, 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446 or Canine Companions for Independence (www.cci.org).
