DR. LEONARDO AREVALO Dr. Leonardo Baldonado Arevalo, 75, of Lansdale, passed away April 12, 2012 at Abington Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mediatrix (Pangilinan) Arevalo. Born April 11, 1937 in Calamba, Philippines, Leonardo was a son of the late Florencio and Luisa (Baldonado) Arevalo. He served his country honorably as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corps. Dr. Arevalo was a long-time and very dedicated member of St. Augustine Church, Philadelphia, and also Corpus Christi Church, Lansdale. Dr. Arevalo was a psychiatrist for many years, most recently with the Wedge Recovery Center in Philadelphia. He was active in the Philippine Medical Society of Greater Philadelphia and the Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia. Dr. Arevalo was a past president of the Filipino American Association of Montgomery County. He will be remembered for his love of line and ballroom dancing, as well as karaoke. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Dr. Arevalo is survived by five children, Menard E. Arevalo of Lancaster, Medlen E. Arevalo and his wife, Sharon, of Philadelphia, Mark J. Arevalo of Silver Spring, MD, Merilee J. Arevalo of Philadelphia, and Melodee Arevalo-Mendoza and her husband, Kristoper, of Philadelphia; two beloved grandchildren, Noah and Claudia; adopted children, Sirikit, Alfred, and Marivic; two brothers, Antonio and Aquilino Arevalo, both of the Philippines; and many loving nieces and nephews. Leonardo was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leah Marie, and a brother, Florendo Arevalo. Viewings will be held 6 to 8PM Monday, April 16, and 6 to 8PM Tuesday, April 17 at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. His Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM Wednesday, April 18 at St. Augustine Church, 243 North Lawrence St., Philadelphia, PA 19106, where family will receive friends after 9AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Arevalo's name to St. Augustine Church, address above, or to Our Lady of Hope Church, 5200 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19141.
