Obituary Condolences

MARY RICE Mary M. (Alderfer) Rice, 90, of Souderton; formerly of Perkasie, entered into rest Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. She was the devoted wife of the late Owen S. Rice for 62 years. Mary was born in Bedminster Twp., to the late Henry W. Alderfer and the late Aquilla (Miller) Alderfer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary volunteered her time at Souderton Mennonite Homes by quilting and visiting with residents. She and her husband volunteered their time delivering Meals on Wheels. Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading, gardening, playing the piano and spending time with family. She was known for baking homemade bread and cooking for her family. Mary was a member of Deep Run Mennonite Church East where she served as a former pre-school Sunday school teacher and was part of the ladies sewing circle. She is survived by her eight daughters, Lorraine Stutzman and husband, Merle of Fleetwood, Mary Ann Kulp and husband, Larry of Martinsburg, Marilyn Landis and husband, Arlen of Troy, Charlotte Myers and husband, Joseph of Perkasie, Ruth Swartley and husband, Steven of Silverdale, Barbara Hackman and husband, Daryl of Perkasie, Donna Godshall and husband, Philip of Martinsburg and Susan Hange and husband, Neal of Perkasie; her son, David Rice and wife, Terella of Williamsburg; her four sisters, Elizabeth Myers of Souderton, Alice Detweiler and husband, Elmer of Bedminster, Miriam Detweiler and husband, Durrell of Hickory, NC and Pearl Freed and husband, Norman of Perkasie; her brother, Claude Alderfer of Souderton; her sister-in-law, Gladys Alderfer of Troy; 26 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Grace Scheetz and Florence Alderfer and her brother, Willard Alderfer. Viewings will be held Friday, March 1 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 West Summit Street, Souderton from 6PM to 8PM and Saturday, March 2 at Deep Run Mennonite Church East, 350 Keller's Church Road, Perkasie, PA 18944 from 12PM to 2PM. A funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2 at 2PM at Deep Run Mennonite Church East. Burial will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
