Obituary Condolences

ROBERT HITCHNER Robert S. Hitchner, 88, of Souderton, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 in the Lutheran Community at Telford. He was the husband of the late Margaret "Peg" (Higgins) Hitchner who died in 2003. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Edward S. and Florence (Hartzell) Hitchner. He was a pattern maker for the Andale Company, Lansdale, for over 30 years prior to retiring in 1987. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne, U.S. Army, during World War II, he earned 2 Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantry Badge. Mr. Hitchner was a member of Immanuel Leidy's Church in Souderton where he was a church Elder, a Sunday school teacher, led the Inquirers Class and sang in the choir. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, candle making, collecting antiques, traveling and reading. He is survived by three daughters, Carole Ann Piper of Raleigh, NC, Lynne S. Lasky and her husband, Richard, of Tacoma, WA, and Joan H. Tawney and her husband, Andrew P. (Col. U.S. Air Force, Retired); five grandchildren, Kelley Piper, Cassandra Lasky, Christopher Tawney and his fiance, Katie Lightle, Philip Tawney and Krista Pavatt; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Piper, and a sister Carole Sarratt Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, at 11AM at Immanuel Leidy's Church, 276 W. Cherry Lane, Souderton, PA 18964. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11AM prior to the service.
