TIBERIO CATALANO Tiberio "Tip" Catalano, 92, of Lansdale passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at Dock Terrace in the Dock Woods Community. He was a devoted husband for 48 years to Joan (Secco) Catalano who passed away in 1996. The family will receive friends to celebrate the life of "Tip", Friday, March 16, between 10AM and 12Noon at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. Born in Newark, NJ, June 27, 1919, he was a son of the late Frank and Maria (Troccoli) Catalano. Tip spent his childhood in E. Orange and Irvington, NJ. He attended Irvington H.S. for two years before joining the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938. While serving in the CCC, he completed his high school education and graduated from Churchill County High School in Fallon, NV in 1940. An Army veteran of World War II, Tip served our country honorably in both England and France. Following his service, he attended the University of Miami on the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Chemistry. After graduation, he returned to NJ and earned an Associate Degree from Newark College of Engineering. After several years at Westinghouse, he became an engineer at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ where he worked for the Department of Defense for 30 years. After retiring from Picatinny, he worked on various government contracts at Nomura Enterprises. Tip married Joan in 1947 and they spent most of their married lives in Bridgewater, NJ. He was involved in the community as a volunteer at the Somerset Valley Y.M.C.A. in Somerville teaching gymnastics. He was also a founding member of the Coppermine Swim Club. He was an avid bicyclist, weight lifter and boating enthusiast and won numerous awards as a runner. Tip was an environmentalist and supported many organizations devoted to environmental protection and wildlife preservation. He was also a supporter of human, civil and animal rights. In his later years, he became an accomplished artist. Tiberio is survived by a daughter, Nancy Quattro and her husband, Anthony, of Lansdale; two grandsons, Jason Quattro and his wife, Lisa, of Pottstown and Michael Quattro of Lansdale; a granddaughter, Kristen Quattro of Lansdale; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Quattro. He is also survived by a brother, Giordano Catalano of Irvington, NJ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tip will also be missed by his dear friend Jacqueline Barndt. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Catalano and three sisters, Antoinette Catalano, Cornelia Naumovitz and an infant sister. Burial will be private.
