Lawrence L. Conver Jr. Obituary
LAWRENCE L. CONVER JR. Lawrence L. Conver, Jr., 66, of Towamencin Township, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Marie (Cressman) Conver, his college sweetheart. They married on June 26, 1971; had a daughter, Amy (nee Walker); and enjoyed 43 years of marriage. Larry was born on April 10, 1948, in Lansdale, the only son of the late Lawrence L. Conver (d. 1985) and Anna (Rambo) Conver (d. 1971). He graduated from North Penn High School, Class of 1966, and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Millersville University in 1970. A precocious and popular college student, Larry was a member of Phi Sigma Pi (National Honor Fraternity), president of Pi Delta Epsilon (Society of Collegiate Journalists), president of Xenophile (Foreign Language Club), and president of the Spanish Club. He also had his own music column in the college paper, The Snapper, and was listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 1969/1970. Larry earned a Master of Arts in 1976 and received an additional 45 credits over the course of his 33-year career teaching Spanish in the North Penn School District. He retired in June 2003 and enjoyed travel, especially cruising; Broadway shows; reading mysteries; and beating everyone at music and movie trivia and Scrabble. He became a water arthritis program instructor at the YMCA and also enjoyed antiquing and spending time with his loving wife, Marie. A lifelong dog lover, he delighted in his Scottish terrier, Mora. Larry was a sweet and devoted father and grandfather and will be incredibly missed by his daughter, Amy L. Walker, of Schwenksville; her husband, Daniel; and their young son, Landon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Larry Conver Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be awarded annually to college-bound North Penn High School Spanish-language majors. Make checks out to NPHS Senior Awards Fund, write "Larry Conver Scholarship Fund" on the memo line, and send to NPHS, Attention: Amy Schwartz, 1340 Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA 19446. Arrangements are by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale. A private life celebration will be in June.
