James L. Alago Obituary
JAMES L. ALAGO James L. Alago, 83, of Lansdale passed away at home on June 5, 2014. He had been in failing health. A loving father, proud grand pop, faithful friend and servant; he will be sorely missed. Jim and his beloved wife, Norma, celebrated 60 years of marriage just prior to her death in 2011. Born December 21, 1930 in Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late George and Ana (Ramos) Alago. He graduated with a degree in Aviation Mechanics from Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades. In 1954 Jim and Norma moved from New York and made their home in Lansdale. Jim was then employed with Transicoil in Worcester. Up until three months ago he was employed part-time with Spring Health Products, Norristown as a tool and die maker. Never one to sit still, Jim could be found working in his yard or basement and could repair just about anything. He loved family gatherings, visiting friends, going out to dinner and helping others. Since moving to Lansdale, he never missed the annual Mardi Gras parade. In years past, Jim enjoyed attending various air shows both near and far. His all-time favorite was the Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Jim was an active member of St Peter's Lutheran Church, North Wales for 60 years. He was also a long- time member of the Upper Gwynedd Lions Club, serving as the liaison for Boy Scout Troop #152 which they sponsored, Antique Airplane Assn., Experimental Aircraft Assn. and Aircraft Owners & Pilots Assn. Jim's love of aviation was evident completing a homebuilt replica of a WW 1 Der Jager, single seat bi-plane in 1999. This labor of love took 28 years. Fulfilling a lifelong dream at the age of 69, Jim earned his solo pilot's license & flew his airplane for the first time. Jim was survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Irv Kulp, Debbie and Don Gloviak, Karen and Mike Mirabella, seven grandchildren, Alison Kulp, Shannon Kehs (Mike), Nathan Kulp (Bekah), Brett Gloviak (Michelle), Kevin Gloviak, Matt Gloviak, Alex Mirabella and two great-grandsons, Cameron & Aiden; also his mother-in-law, Celenia Garcia, and a brother, William. In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by three siblings. A celebration of Jim's life will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, June 19 at St Peter's Lutheran Church, 211 S. Main St., North Wales, where family will receive visitors from 9:30 to 11:00. Graveside services will be held privately. Jim's homebuilt airplane is on display at the Golden Age Air Museum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the museum located at 371 Airport Road, Bethel, PA 19507. Arrangements by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
