DAVID R. CORDELL David R. Cordell, of Chalfont PA, died on Tuesday July 29 at Season's Hospice Care in Phoenixville PA; He was 81. He was born on December 1, 1932 in West Chester Pa. He attended Lansdale High School and Penn State University. In 1955 he married Barbara Skilton, and together they had 3 children, Pamela Illg (Ernst), Bonny Lee Fritz(Edison) and Steven Robert Cordell (Christine). David Cordell started his working career in construction where his problem solving skills and leadership became well known to those who worked with him. After 23 years in construction he founded D. R. Cordell & Associates, Inc., A company specializing in industrial lifting machinery and equipment. His leadership enabled the company to experience growth and national recognition within the industry. The company continues with his work today as a manufacturer of specialized material handling equipment with national and international sales. In 1962 he was appointed to the Chalfont Borough Planning Commission; served as Borough Council Member, Borough Council Vice President and Borough Council President. He was elected Mayor of Chalfont in 1974 and appointed to the Chalfont New Britain Joint Sewer Authority serving in 1988. He contributed countless hours of his time and skills on Borough projects including managing the installation of the Chalfont Lions Walking Bridge behind Borough Hall, constructing the Borough 100 Year Birthday Cake and building a display cabinet still in use today at Borough Hall. He was presented with a Service Award from Chalfont Borough Council in recognition of his 40 years of service to Chalfont Borough. He was also active in the Chalfont Lions Club and a 50 year member of Shiloh Lodge No. 558. He enjoyed sailing, playing the piano and accordion, calling square dances and woodworking. He will be greatly missed by his community and family. David is survived by his wife Barbara of 59 years, three children and nine grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend David's Funeral Service 11:30 AM, Monday August 4, 2014 at Pleasantville United Church, 3424 Limekiln Pike, Chalfont, PA 18914 where the viewing will begin at 10 AM. Interment with a Masonic Graveside Service will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made in David R.
