Allen J. Swartz Obituary
ALLEN SWARTZ Allen J. Swartz, "The Harmonica Man", 89, of West Rockhill Twp., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Genesis HealthCare Quakertown Center. He and his wife Eleanor E. (Platt) Swartz celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in January. Born in Telford, he was a son of the late William H. and Ida (Pannepacker) Swartz, and attended Telford and Souderton Schools. An Air Force veteran of WWII, he served from 1943 to 1945 as an auto mechanic with the Headquarters Squadron 54th Troop Carrier Wing, attaining the rank of corporal. He was employed as an auto body mechanic for Hatfield Recon for 20 years, prior to his retirement in 1988. He was previously employed by local auto body shops including the late Andrew Gouldy Body Shop of Gwynedd Square where he learned the auto body trade, Perry Hayes Auto Body of Telford, Paul Wiened Body Shop in Souderton, and then opened his own body shop in North Wales. Mr. Swartz was a lifetime member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Telford. His most enjoyable hobby was playing the harmonica at different nursing homes, restaurants, special occasions, churches and hospitals. He was a lifetime member of the Telford VFW, Harleysville Gun Club, and was a "gold star" ice skater, and belonged to several skating clubs. An avid flower and rock gardener, he also enjoyed the shore, and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Wayne A. Swartz and his wife, Pam, of Acworth, GA, Dale A. Swartz and his wife, Connie, of Pottstown, and David G. Swartz of Sellersville; three daughters, Beverly B. Williard and her husband, James, of Telford, Deborah A. Schuler and her husband, Dennis, of Perkasie, and Diane C. Ott and her husband, David, of Hilltown; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers, William Swartz and his wife, Doris, of Bradenton, FL, Gilbert Swartz of Port Charlotte, FL, and Monroe Swartz and his wife, Carol, of Bradenton, FL. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald Allen Swartz; two brothers, Charles and Edwin Swartz; and four sisters, Linda Godshall, Gertrude Reiff, Mildred Finnemeyer, and Emma Bambery. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 21 at 11AM in the Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 S. Main St., Telford, PA 18969. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11AM prior to the service. Interment is private at the convenience of the family in the Trinity UCC Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Trinity United Church of Christ at the above address.
