J. Howard Deming Obituary
J. HOWARD DEMING J. Howard Deming, 93, of Lancaster, formerly of Glenside, passed away October 3, 2012 at Hospice Community Care, Lancaster. He was married to Hazel Crankshaw Deming for 44 years on September 14. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late George and Ethel Beck Deming. Howard was a 1936 graduate of Abington High School and Lehigh University class of 1940. He was co-founder and later sole proprietor of Tri-Kris Co., Inc. of Lansdale, a precision machine shop founded in 1946. A committed volunteer in his community, Howard was a trustee of the Methodist Hospital of Philadelphia from 1947 to 1950; in addition, he was a charter member and founder of the North Penn YMCA in Lansdale, and former member of the Oreland Art Center. An active 40-year member of the Jenkintown United Methodist Church, he served as President of Trustees and was Sunday school superintendent. Later he held memberships with Jarrettown UMC and West Willow UMC. He was a current member of Grace Church at Willow Valley. Howard had a special interest in gardening and was lovingly referred to as the "Happy Gardner" as he faithfully cared and nurtured the church gardens where he attended. His love of gardening extended to volunteering at several historic sites, including the Highlands in Montgomery Co., Rock Ford and the Hans Herr House in Lancaster County. In addition, Howard enjoyed traveling the world, woodcarving, painting and music. In addition to his wife, Hazel, he is survived by two children, John H. Deming Jr., of Sellersville and a daughter, Laurel R. (Paul) Michael of Wingate, NC; and his grandson, Jeffrey Deming of Lebanon, NH. He was predeceased by his son, M. Christopher Deming and a brother, George Deming. Services are private and held at the convenience of his family. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville.
