HENRY GARFIELD Henry G. Garfield, 68, of Fort Washington and formerly Hatfield, passed away November 9, 2012 at his home after a two-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his life partner, Martin A. Mastascusa. Born December 23, 1943 in Boston, MA, Henry was the son of the late Henry and Marjorie (Graves) Garfield. Mr. Garfield was a graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School and went on to earn a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Maine. He continued his education at the Pennsylvania State University, where he completed his Master's degree. Hank was employed as Chief Estimator by Driscoll Construction Company, Inc., formerly in Spring House, for forty years, until his retirement in 2011. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale and was also a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Formerly active with the Free Masons, Henry was involved with the Mount Horeb Lodge and was an avid and talented gardener; he loved working in his yard and was also a great supporter of the arts, especially the Philadelphia Orchestra. Above all else, Henry was a dedicated and faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 33 years. In addition to Martin, he is survived by four children, James F. Garfield and his wife, Jenean Watrous, of San Ramon, CA, Meredith L. Collet and her husband, Adam, of Gilbertsville, Anne E. Garfield of Doylestown, and Sarah G. Read and her husband, Brett, of San Antonio, TX; and two beloved grandchildren, Noel Garfield and Jacob Collet. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Shawhan) Garfield, who died in 1982. A memorial service to celebrate Henry's life will be held 11AM Wednesday, November 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main Street, Lansdale, where friends may greet the family after 10AM. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Church's Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's name to the Nature Conservancy, 100 West 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
