George Yoder Obituary
GEORGE YODER George R. "Pappy" Yoder, Sr., 89, of Souderton and formerly a long time resident of Lansdale, passed away November 30, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Alice E. (Seitz) Yoder to whom he was married 65 years. Born September 12, 1923 in Philadelphia, George was the son of the late George S. and Gertrude D. (Ritter) Yoder. George graduated from the former Lansdale High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He would later earn earned his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University where he was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. George also always had a great love of his Alma Mater, Penn State, and was an active member of the Nittany Lions Club. He went on to work as a payroll accountant for many years, most recently working for Davro Optical Systems, from where he retired. George has held many associations over the years. He was a long time member of the Fairmount Fire Company where he was Chief of the Fire Police for many years and also served as treasurer. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Fireman's Association, American Legion Post 206, and the former Lansdale chapter of the Jaycees. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as past president of the Trinity Seniors. George also enjoyed being actively involved with the Oley Yoder Family Heritage. George loved to bowl, was an avid hunter and greatly enjoyed spending time in the Pocono Mountains where he constructed two homes in his spare time. He enjoyed model railroading and collecting N-gauge trains as well as being an avid golfer in his later years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, George R. Yoder, Jr. and his wife, Marjorie, and Virginia A. Pruett and her companion, Gerald Kratz. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Susan, Debra, Elizabeth, and Matthew; and his great-grandchildren, Cody, Taryn, Zachary, Benjamin, and In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Seiz. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 10 to 11AM, Monday Dec. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St. Lansdale, PA 19446 where the memorial service will take place at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the adjoining church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to Trinity Lutheran Church, address above. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
