Eugene Anson Bookheimer Obituary
EUGENE ANSON BOOKHEIMER Eugene Anson Bookheimer, 90, of Princeton, NJ and formerly of Plymouth Meeting, PA passed away peacefully Sunday, July 13, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Esther (Borneman) Bookheimer, his devoted wife of nearly 59 years. Eugene, known to all as Gene, was born in Worcester, PA on June 4, 1924 to Roscoe Wagner and Louisa (Anson) Bookheimer. He graduated from Norristown High School, received a diploma from the American Floral Art School, and a B.S. in Horticulture from Pennsylvania State College and was a proud Nittany Lion. Gene was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and proudly served for 2 years as quartermaster Second Class on the A55 USS Elokomin from July 1943 - March 1946. He was awarded the European Theater Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon and Victory Medal. Throughout his lifetime, Gene held memberships at the Central Schwenkfelder Church of Worcester, PA, First Baptist Church of Lansdale, PA, and the First Baptist Church of Norristown, PA, where he was a superintendent of the Sunday school program. Gene was an avid gardener and coffee connoisseur who enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, watching television, and listening to music. Gene spent the majority of his career in finance. He retired from banking and worked another 13 years for the Montgomery County Treasurer's Office. Gene was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Debbie Ross and her husband, Jeff, of Harleysville, PA, Nancy Kalmikoff and her husband, Larry, of Plainsboro, NJ, and Richard Bookheimer and his wife, Clare Mudd, of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Jeremy and Natalie Ross, Randal and Josh Kalmikoff, and Max, Sophie and Theo Bookheimer; and brother, Fred Bookheimer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Weisenbach. Gene will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends may call between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA. A second visitation will begin 12 Noon Friday, July 18, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Lansdale, 700 N. Broad St., Lansdale, PA 19446, followed by a Memorial Service and celebration of his life through music at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private in Hereford Mennonite Church Cemetery, Bally, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Lansdale, address above, or the First Baptist Church of Norristown, 445 Burnside Avenue, Norristown, PA 19403.
