Herbert S. "Bud" Pumfrey Obituary
Herbert S. (Bud) Pumfrey, of Rolla, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 19, 2018 at the age of 95.
Herbert was born at home in DeLong, IL on December 15, 1922 to the late Arthur Pumfrey and Jesse (Halsey) Pumfrey. He was married to Alberta Louise Pumfrey for 53 years and she preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents and wife, Herbert was also preceded in death by his daughters, Mary Ruth Dosch and Ellen Marie Woodruff; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Herbert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. As a young man, he enjoyed working on the family farm in Galesburg, IL. After serving his country in the Army, he retired to the Rolla area in 1970 and was a member of VFW Post #2025. He also worked for the Rolla Post Office as a mail sorter.
After coming to Rolla, he built his own home south of Rolla and became an avid woodworker. He shared many of his wooden projects with friends and family. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help his neighbors. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and, after retiring, they traveled the States extensively.
Herbert will be greatly missed by his family which includes his sister, Elsie Holt of Galesburg, IL; daughters, Sheila Schreiner and husband Robert and Bonnie Plasse and husband Norman, all of Rolla; grandchildren, Robert Pickett of MA., Jodie Fletcher of IL, Andrew Plasse of TX, Simon Plasse and Anna Plasse both of Rolla; and six great grandchildren, Cooper, Brody, Sydney, Selena, Ciera and Charlotte.
A private graveside service for the family of Herbert S. Pumfrey will be held at the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife and daughter. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
