Joyce Kay Price Trimble, of Rolla, passed away in Detroit, MI while traveling with friends on September 28, 2016 at the age of 71.
She was born in Frankfort, IN on February 2, 1945 to William Arthur Thomas Price and Kathleen (Cohee) Price. Her father preceded her in death.
Joyce earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University and a master's degree in Special Education from the University of Kentucky. She taught in St. Louis for two years and then in the Rolla School System for three and a half years.
On June 7, 1970 she married the love of her life, Selden Y. Trimble, on her family's farm in Indiana. They were later blessed with two children.
Joyce had a unique zest for life, an insatiably curious mind, many interests, talents, accomplishments, and endearing characteristics.
She was a talented potter and had studied ceramics for many years, designing many unique pieces of pottery. She was a passionate theater-goer for over 30 years. She enjoyed taking the family on an annual trip to Louisville for the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Joyce was also a regular at "The Rep" in Webster Groves, MO and enjoyed attending many of the productions at MS&T's Leach Theater.
For 35 years she was involved in the on-going activities of the Chi Omega Sorority, serving as president of the building corporation and advisor among other things.
Mrs. Trimble was also a talented seamstress who had a great eye for color and design. She enjoyed cooking and learning how prepare a wide variety of dishes including intricate soups and stews. A specialty was a Christmas candy called Bourbon Balls, which was a secret recipe from her husband's side of the family.
She retired as the Assistant Director at the Choices for People Center in Rolla where she worked to help develop and strengthen various programs for their clientele. She felt strongly about celebrating the value of each person she worked with and wanted to help everyone achieve their maximum potential.
Joyce was active in a local PEO chapter and in many discussions groups, particularly Tea and Topics.
She loved her friends and family dearly. Perhaps her greatest role was as a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was their biggest champion: a coach and cheerleader all wrapped up in one. She listened, doled out advice, and loved deeply.
Left to mourn her loss are her husband of 46 years, Dr. Selden Y. Trimble, of their home in Rolla; two children, Kathleen Trimble, of Somerville, MA and Selden Trimble, of Sioux Falls, SD; her mother, Kathleen Price, of Frankfort, IN; one sister, Judy Michal and husband Phil, of Crawfordville, IN; a sister-in-law, Ridley Virdeh and husband Fred, of Los Gatos, CA; nieces and nephews, other extended family members and many, many dear friends.
A memorial gathering celebrating the life of Joyce Trimble will be held from 2-4 pm Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Following, from 5-7, a toast and reception with light appetizers will be held at Just A Taste in St. James.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Joyce Trimble Chi Omega Scholarship at MS&T, public radio station KMST, Cottey College in Nevada, MO, or the Humana Festival of New American Plays in Louisville, KY.
