Brinley Jones Obituary

We regret to announce the death of BRINLEY JONES, beloved husband of the late Annette Jones, of Highwood Lane, Paget, in his 87th year. Born in Llanelli, South Wales, UK, Brin moved to the Island in 1956 from the Metropolitan Police, London, and spent 20-plus years in the Bermuda Police Service as a Detective Sergeant in C.I.D. and Prosecutions divisions. He later worked at The Royal Gazette as Librarian. A former welterweight boxing champion for the British Army (Royal Welsh Regiment and Royal Welsh Fusiliers) and British Railway, and a professional boxer in the 1940s, he was a longtime referee for the Annual Police Boxing Tournament and a member of the "Barbarians" Rugby Football Club. He was also an avid birdwatcher and became an accomplished golfer in Bermuda, following the PGA Tour to the end of his life. Friends and colleagues are encouraged to support in his memory the important work of Agape House through a donation to Friends of Hospice, Ste 124, 48 Par-la-Ville Road, Hamilton, HM 11. Brin will be sadly missed by his daughter Rosemary Jones (and husband Paul Shapiro), son Robert Jones (and wife Kimberly Jones), grandchildren Gabriel Jones, and Brinley and Lillian Jones, and special caregiver and friend, Judy Smith Lee. In accordance with his wishes, a private family memorial will be held at a later date following cremation. Bulley-Graham-Rawlins Funeral Home

It is with great sadness that we learned of Brin's passing. We retain fond memories of a wonderful newspaper colleague - always friendly, always helpful, always full of interesting stories and anecdotes delivered in that delightful Welsh lilt, and above all, always a gentleman. It was a privilege to have known and worked with Brin. May he rest in peace.
Our deepest sympathy to all the family.

May I extend my deepest condolences to the Jones family. I have fond memories of Brinley, both as a fellow Police Officer and as the referee for my fights in the ring during the '69-'70 Annual Police Boxing Tournaments at PRC, Prospect. A wonderful man is now in the arms of The Lord. May he Rest In Peace.

Brinley's expertise as a boxer did not go unnoticed on the Rugby field where he was a fearsome hooker for the Police Rugby Team.
Our condolences to Rosemary and Robert and family.

I remember Brin well, both from working with him in the Police Prosecutions office and from having been refereed by him on various Police boxing nights. He was a character, and no mistake: RIP Brin, and condolences to the family.

I write on behalf of the Bermuda Ex-Police Officers Association to express our sincere condolences to Rosemary, Robert and their families on the passing of their father Brinley. “”Brin” started his Police career in uniform but spent many years in CID, serving in Central, Eastern and Western CID, before moving to Prosecutions. A great sportsman in his younger years he will always be remembered as a first class boxing referee when the Police Boxing Section was in it heyday.

Dear Rosemary & Robert,
I can still see your dad reading on Anstey's porch, caring & taking your mum in her later years to the Arboretum to feed the cardinals to working behind the archives desk at RG. Sending love & prayers to you & your families.

My most sincere condolences to the Jones family. Brin was indeed a character. We had many interesting conversations, especially in the mid to late '70s. Happy memories.
