GRAND TOWER -- Howard C. "Snap" Huffman, 87, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Grand Tower, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in Missouri Veteran's Home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Grand Tower, to Albert and Grace Chaney Huffman. He and Annie E. Thompson were married Dec. 13, 1947, in Greenville, Miss. Mr. Huffman was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was in the Pacific Campaign and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Howard was a Master Operator of Inland and Inter-costal Waterways. Mr. Huffman last piloted the M/V Amoco Missouri. He retired from Amoco Towing.
Survivors include his wife, Annie E. Huffman of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Carolyn (Marvin Jr.) Best of Gordonville, Mo., Elaine (Greg) Atwood of Carbondale; a son, Steve (Trudi) Huffman of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Mary Lou Huffman of Grand Tower; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Doug Huffman; four brothers; and six sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military rites by the Missouri Honor Team. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Missouri Veteran's Home.
