CAMBRIA -- Argel L. Brown, 89, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Cambria, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in Port St. Lucie.
Argel was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Cambria to Hobart and Georgia (Allsup) Brown.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Bucking on April 11, 1946.
After graduating from Hurst-Bush High School, he joined the CCC Camp at Giant City State Park.
He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
and served from 1941 to 1945.
He and his family lived in Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y. He was self-employed, and upon retirement, he and Betty moved to Okeechobee, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years and his children, Tom and Delores Brown of Kennewick, Wash., Jim and JoAnn Brown of West Islip, N.Y., and Doug and Georgette Brown of Jensen Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Terra, Scott, Jefferey, Justin, Jonathan, Douglas and Brooke; and three great-grandchildren, Kirsty, Caleb and Joshua. Also surviving are one sister, Wanda Whitney of Carterville; one brother, Hobart JR and Mary Lou Brown of Carterville; and many nieces and nephews including Janice and Denny Lingle, Kendra and Chris Homoyo, Gail and Trent Johnston, Denise Gay Cross, David and Anita Brown and Harry and Shelly Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; brother-in-law, Paul Whitney; and niece, Pam Storme.
Argel was loved by all who knew him.
Argel's wish was to be cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date.
