AVA - Donald "PeeWee" D. Dobyns, 64, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Rehabilitation and Care Center of Jackson County.
He was born on July 12, 1949, in Sparta, to Arthur Dobyns and Mary Byers.
He married Mildred "Midge" (Morrow) Howie on Sept. 7, 1991, in Ava.
Donald was of Baptist Faith and served in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam War
He worked at Zeigler Coal Company and Complete Exterminating Service.
He was a member of the Sparta Eagles, Life member of the Sparta VFW
, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Illinois Vietnam Veterans and lifetime member of the National Riffle Association (NRA).
Donald is survived by his wife, Midge Dobyns of Ava; two daughters, Karen Howie-Strack of De Soto, and Mary Ann Esteep of Missouri; two sisters, Ethel "Babe" Spitzmiller of Cape Girardeau, and Shirley Stahlman of Dyersburg, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Dobyns of Sparta, and Terri Dobyns of Sparta; four brothers, Vernon "Pete" (Margie) Dobyns of Steeleville, Cletus "Buck" (Diane) Dobyns of Odin, Damon (Carol) Dobyns of St. Libory, and Jerry (Terry) Dobyns of Kinmundy; nine grandchildren, Sara (Ray) Minor, Steven Strack, Samantha Strack, Stefanie Strack, Brett (Destiny) Hesse, Shane Hesse, Kirsten Hesse, Macy Gross and Beth Ulanich and four great-grandchildren, Ethan Minor, Serenity Hesse, Layla Hesse and Lucas Hesse.
He is preceded in death by parents; two sons, Donald S. Dobyns and Arthur Charles Dobyns; two brothers, Wayne "Sonny" Dobyns and Robert E. Dobyns; three sisters, Betty, Judy and Edith "Sis" Eggemeyer; and one stepson, Gary Howie.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Sparta. Interment will be at Caledonia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the church.
Memorials may be given to Rehabilitation and Care Center of Jackson County, or to the Sparta VFW or American Legion Firing Squad.
