OLMSTED - Garry D. George, 73, formerly of Mound City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Mound City, the son of Chellis and Lela Elizabeth (Hayes) George.
Garry was an Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War
and a lifetime member of Pulaski County Memorial VFW
Post 8891 in Mounds.
He was former owner and manager of Southern Illinois Bus Services and a former dispatcher for Pulaski County Sheriff's Department. He also was an avid outdoor sportsman and hunter.
Survivors include a son, Gregory (Terri) George of Cobden; daughter, Jodi (Jeff) Palmer of Anna; two sisters, Roxie Freeman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donna Kilgore of St. Louis; four brothers, Joel George of St. Louis, Mike (Sally) George of Union City, Tenn., Edwin (Terri) George of Mayfield, Ky., and Randy (Carol) George of Grand Chain; five grandchildren, Ethan and Alex Palmer and Lauren, Garrett D. and Macie George; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrell George; and infant brother, Donald Lee George.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Interment with military honors by the Illinois National Guard and local veterans will follow in Chapel Cemetery in rural Cypress. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
