BENTON - J. B. Karroll, 93, of Benton passed away at 3:46 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 19, 1919, in West Frankfort to John and Maggie (Peterson) Karroll.
He married Jean A. (Clemons) Karroll on Oct. 29, 1947, and she preceded him in death March 2, 2010.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Smith and Norma Hawkins and a son-in-law, Richard Smith all of Benton; 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dana Mandrell, Shelly and Robert Capps, Josh, April and Whitney Smith, Shawna and Kaleb Mandrell and Jasmine and Evan Williams; two sisters, Marcella Burton of West Frankfort and Gertrude Jones of Woodstock; and a sister-in-law, Frances Karroll of West Frankfort.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; three brothers, Hank, Johnnie and Reginald Karroll; and an infant sister.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II
in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the UMWA for 44 Years and was a retired coal miner and farmer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Jason Ishmael officiating. Burial will be in East Fork Cemetery, east of West Frankfort, with military rites by the Zeigler and Orient American Legions, West Frankfort VFW
and by Military Honors Team of Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
