MURPHYSBORO - Joy L. Marfio, 87, passed away at 6:01 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at her residence in Murphysboro.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro with Ken Peterein officiating. Burial will be in De Soto Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joy was born May 4, 1926, in Perry County to Walter Isaac and Lola Mae (Reidelberger) Simon.
She had worked as a cook at the Elks Lodge
, Carruthers School for Murphysboro School District 186 and Jackson County Country Club. She also had worked at Todd's Laundrymat.
Mrs. Marfio was Catholic by faith. She loved to sew, crochet, make afghans and embroidery. She also loved to sit on her porch and to take care of her flowers. She was a great mom, granny and mama.
Joy married Sam Marfio on June 24, 1944, in Piggott, Ark., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1985.
Survivors include three children, Linda Dietz Butcher and husband Dave Butcher, Robert Marfio and wife Brenda and Craig Marfio, all of Murphysboro; eight grandchildren, Bill Dietz, Sandra Ripley, Betty Jo Bartlow, Tony Marfio, Tracy Bennett, Jodi Berner, Jama Clark and Nicole Marfio; 12 great-grandchildren, Jenna Dietz, Sam Dietz, Jaeden Ripley, Raegan Ripley, Cody Wehmeyer, Mason Bartlow, Noah Marfio, Devin Robinson, Zoey Bennett, Erica Berner, Zachary Berner and Samuel Clark and one great-grandchild on the way; one brother, Norman Simon of Du Quoin; and one sister, Naomi Harris of Tamaroa.
She was preceded in death by one son, Samuel Marfio; one brother; one sister and her parents.
