WASHINGTON - Ralph E. Morgan, 80, formerly of Zeigler, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.
Ralph was born March 5, 1932, in Island Grove Township to Joseph "Frank" and Vivian "Irene" Kinnerman Morgan.
He married Barbara A. Strakowski Aug. 4, 1956, in Zeigler, and she preceded him in death Nov. 7, 1999, in Washington.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Dale Null of Zeigler and Tina and Cameron Skobel of St. Louis; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gwen Morgan of Peoria; one sister, Janetta Dehnbostel of Eureka; one daughter-in-law, April Morgan of Washington; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-stepgrandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his youngest son, John C. Morgan, who died Jan. 22, 2008; and his brother, Sherwin Morgan.
Ralph was a veteran of the Korean Conflict
and had served in the U.S. Navy
He was retired from Metropolitan Insurance Company, where he had worked as an agent in the Washington area for 35 years. Prior to working for Metropolitan, Ralph worked for his father doing road construction in Southern Illinois.
Ralph was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Washington.
He enjoyed working on cars in his spare time, especially loving old classic cars like his '38 Chevrolet, and he once owned a '55 Chevy.
Ralph also loved to fish and was a member of the Washington 12th Man organization.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today in Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home.
Local visitation and a prayer by Brother Donald Wright will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Vantrease Funeral Home in Ziegler. Burial will follow with military honors courtesy of Zeigler and Orient American Legions, West Frankfort VFW
and Marion National Guard Flag Detail in Zeigler Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Parkinson Foundation.
