WEST FRANKFORT - William Lee Avery, 83, died at 12:48 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, in Herrin Hospital.
He was born Jan. 13, 1930, in West Frankfort, to H.R. and Celia (Guymon) Avery.
He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, having served in Korea.
He was a salesman for different drug companies for many years.
Survivors include wife, Eleanor A. Avery of West Frankfort; sons, Mike Avery of Kansas City, Mo., Steve (Sheila) Avery of Salt Lake City, Paul (Tamara) Avery of St. Louis, and William (Brenda) Hoffman of Farmington, Mo.; daughter, Roberta Avery of Fairview Heights; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Avery; stepson, Frank Hoffman; brother, Eugene Avery; and sister, Delma Dean Irvin.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, in First Baptist Church in West Frankfort, with Brother Mike Cash officiating. Interment will be in Denning Cemetery on Orient Road. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 1961 of Orient, Zeigler Post 177, VFW
Post 5764 of West Frankfort, and Marion National Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in Union Funeral Home and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at the church.
