John Herbert Obituary

CREAL SPRINGS - John M. Herbert Sr., 67, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family.

John was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Lemont, to John J. and Josephine (Bieniak) Herbert.

He married LaVonne Angus on May 8, 1965, in Lemont; together they shared 44 years of marriage.

John was of Catholic faith. He worked as a police officer, retiring after 24 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and football. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne, of Creal Springs; son, John Herbert Jr. of Golden; son and daughter-in-law, David and Christine Herbert of Marion; granddaughters, Amanda Lynn Herbert and Jessica Darlene Herbert; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Bill Johnson and Jeanette and Jesse Castleton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Monsignor Thomas Flach officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
