Oh Big Country, how you made our lives better.
I still remember the day in Iowa in 2001 on the $2 tour with New Society of Anarchists when you got that nickname. For some reason it just stuck. Maybe it was the Bryant Reeves basketball jersey you wore all the time. Who knows. :)
Erik's passing should put the cliché "Only the good die young" front and center in our minds and hearts.
By the way, I have a strong hunch you had something to do with the tornado that hit as soon as we arrived in town. Ok......you got us. One last prank before you go. We deserved it. I hope that wherever you are, you and your accomplices got a good laugh at watching us have a hell of a time.
I love you, Erik.
Thanks for always being a perfect friend.
Whiskey up!

My heart feels empty and devastated. I just recently heard the tragic news and my mind and heart went back many years and memories of Erik flooded me like a hurricane. When I first met Erik while I was a student at SIU, he made quite an impression on me! What was not to love about Erik? His generosity, creativity, smile, faithfulness, and loyalty could be spotted immediately upon meeting him. Erik was easy to talk to, easy to trust, and I must say, just a lot of fun to be around! Even though I regretably have not seen Erik in a very long time, I always had comfort knowing that his presence graced this earth. He's one of those people you just felt like you were better because you knew him. It's a sad moment that is truly heartbreaking. The immense sadness that I feel, I know cannot even begin to compare to the pain his family, girlfriend, and friends must be feeling. To each of you,I am so very, very sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that Erik's impact was, and is very far- reaching. He will live through every good deed I do, every student whose life I can make a difference in, and every successful opportunity I have to make someone laugh. His spirit will live on in my heart and in the hearts of many! Rock on, Erik! You are a legend now and forever.

Erik was immediately my friend the day I met him in 1993. One of the nicest, most easy-going friends that I have had the pleasure of knowing. I am fortunate enough to have been able to spend more time with him the last few years. My heart goes out to his family and Morgan. I will miss him and cherish his memory and my time with him always.

Yesterday i called Eriks phone to hear his kind voice one more time, or to present my condolances to whomever answered. I did get to hear his voice and it was comforting. So now I would like to say that i am so heartbroken for Eriks family in this hour of darkness. I too share this loss from afar, and i look forward to having my visit with him upon my return. I can only imagine the number of his friends that will gather to celebrate the great times they got experience having Erik in their lives....You will be remembered brother!
