Ferne Rowold

MURPHYSBORO -- Ferne Rowold, 89, passed away at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ted Mayes officiating, and burial in Murdale Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran School, or the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County.

Pettett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ferne was born July 27, 1921, in Murphysboro to William F. Rowold and Clara C. (Beisner) Rowold.

She had retired from the former Brown Shoe Company in Murphysboro.

Miss Rowold was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she had been a former member of the Altar Guild. She also, served as a volunteer aid for the pre-school program at the Immanuel Lutheran School for many years.

Ferne is survived by first cousins, including Jim Williams of Reno, Nev., Charley Williams of Murphysboro, Helen Darnstaedt of Nashville, and Bill Rathjen; numerous second cousins including, Steve and Sue Williams and their children, Corey and Nick Williams, and Pam Foley and her daughter, Katie Foley, all of Murphysboro; a special neighbor and friend, Debbie Dunn of Murphysboro; and a first cousin by marriage, Doris Williams of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by a third cousin, Ryan Foley and her parents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County for their excellent care that was given to Ferne during her stay at the nursing home.
