Billy Tweedy Obituary

HURST -- Billy Bob Tweedy, 68, formerly of West Frankfort, died at 10:09 Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in VA Medical Center in Marion.

He was born Nov. 11, 1942, in West Frankfort to Barber (Bob) and Vivian (Mosley) Tweedy

Mr. Tweedy graduated from West Frankfort High School. Bill joined the Army Reserves and he served three years and two months. After coming home from the Army, Bill worked at Bud Cremeens Chrysler in West Frankfort, Caterpillar in Chicago and crop forged in Chicago. He last worked for the city of West Frankfort. Bill's favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11. Bill enjoyed going places with his friends, especially with his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Jackie. Bill and Carl loved to talk and laugh about the things they did when they were younger. His family, friends and all who knew him will greatly miss him.

The family would like to thank all his doctors and nurses who took special care of him. Also, thank you to Hurst and Carterville ambulance service for their timely service.

Survivors include sister, Barbara Coslow of Lovington, brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Jackie Tweedy of Bush, son, Jonathan Smith of Carterville; four nieces, Dee (Reed) Frantz of Lovington, Sandy (David) Johnston of Shelbyville, Barbara (Jim) Holland of Vienna, Susan Tweedy Jenkins of West Frankfort; four nephews, Kevin (Chris) Ellis of Hammond, Mark (Becky) Ellis of Burlison, Texas, Carl Tweedy Jr. of Hurst and Josh Melvin of Kentucky; three stepnephews: Brian (Tammy) Pierce of Raymond, Jim (Jenny) Pierce of Murphysboro and Danny Ray Pierce of Chester, several great-nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend whom he played bingo with, shopping and just riding around with Robyn Cheetam.

He was preceded in death by parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, in Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with the Rev. Jim Penson officiating. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery on Orient Road. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the funeral home.

Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 1961 of Orient, Zeigler Post 177, VFW Post 5764 of West Frankfort and Marion National Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the funeral home.

I remember sneaking into the armory to play pool and basketball, riding our bicycles forever, swimming in the sulfur pond, throwing rocks from a sling, and working for Mrs. Malkovich because we liked her. I will miss you Bill.

I am going to miss tweedy I will miss calling him William (which he hated) but I was the only one that he would let call him that I renmember when he hid my bicycle behind the dumpster at Hungrys' he just laughed about that He will be missed immensely. Pat (Hogan)Norris
