Donald Halbert Obituary

MARION - Donald R. Halbert, 72, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at his home in Marion.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Mike Hood officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery, south of Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to Scottsboro Baptist Church in Marion. Envelopes are available at the funeral home, or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.

Don was born Jan. 15, 1939, in Cherryville, Mo., to Ralph and Irene (Key) Halbert.

He is survived by his wife 23 years, Alice Bennett-Halbert of Marion; daughter, Robyn and Bob Lindsay of Creal Springs; stepdaughter, Mandy and Raymond Schuetz of Goreville; grandchildren, Colleen Elise Lindsay, Payton Evan Lindsay, Clark Aiden Lindsay and Hoyt Marshall Lindsay, all of Creal Springs; stepgrandchildren, Michaela Rae Schuetz, Kaitlyn Rose Schuetz and Ty Lucas Schuetz, all of Goreville; brothers, Ray and Irene Halbert of Cherryville, Mo., Clarid and Joyce Gibbs of Dillard, Mo., and Tom and Phyllis Gibbs of Davisville, Mo.; sisters, Nellie Wilhite of Davisville, Mo., Margaret Hampton of Viburnum, Mo., Loretta and Jesse "Skeets" Howdeshell of Bourbon, Mo., and Josephine Strange of Hillsboro, Mo.; mother-in-law, Thelma Pyatt of West Virginia; sisters-in-law, Barbara Gibbs of Sulphur Springs, Ind., Nora McMillan of Beckley, W.Va., and Donna Ward of Beaver, W.Va.; brothers-in-law, Willard and June Bennett of Geneva, Ohio, and Gary and Myrt Bennett of Elryia, Ohio; and and Delbert Hedrick, Bay, Mo.; several other relatives; and many friends.

Don is reunited in heaven with his toddler son, Jeffrey Jay Halbert (from a previous marriage); parents, Ralph Halbert and Irene Halbert-Gibbs; stepfather, George Gibbs; brothers, Dale and wife, Verla, Gibbs and Kenneth Wayne Gibbs; sisters, Argie and husband, Warren, Parrett, Clio and husband, Kenneth, Ware and Shirley Hedrick; and brothers-in-law, Tom Wilhite, and Johnnie Strange.

Donald was an active member and worker at Scottsboro Baptist Church in Marion, where he attended for more than 44 years. He was employed as a master plumber for the Southern Illinois area through Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 551.

Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and also riding his precious horse, Sky.
