Dorothy Wilson Obituary

SPARTA - Dorothy H. Wilson, 101, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, in Sparta Community Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta, with the Rev. Robert Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church, Union Cemetery or Gideons Sparta Camp.

Mrs. Wilson worked as a teacher in rural schools.

She was a member of Home Bureau, Gideons Auxiliary, Women's Missionary Society, Union Cemetery Board and Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church in Sparta, where she served as a youth leader. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and 4-H leader.

She was born March 24, 1909, in Sparta to Elmer and Fleeta (Brown) Pressley.

She married Moore S. Wilson, who preceded her in death June 16, 2010.

Survivors include two daughters, Fleta (Keith) Gordon and Linda (Cy) Compton, both of Sparta; three grandchildren, Jeannie (Dan) Bauer of O'Fallon, Mike (Kathy) Gordon of Sparta and C.G. (Erin) Compton III of St. Louis; four great-grandchildren, Michael Douglas Gordon of Sparta, Benjamin Bauer and Andrew Bauer, both of O'Fallon, and Cora Beth Compton of St. Louis; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
