CARTERVILLE - Eugene "Gene" H. Stocks, 87, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in V.A. Nursing Home in Marion. He was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Cambria, to Otto Clark and Edna Kate (McCabe) Stocks.
Lamoria M. Stocks, 77, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at her home. She was born March 17, 1936, in Roxana, to Sidney and Opal Mae (Elders) Richardson.
Gene and Lamoria were united in marriage March 26, 1971, at First Christian Church in Carterville.
Services for both Gene and Lamoria will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, in First Christian Church, with Pastors Michael Williams and Jeff Wiggs officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.
Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, P.O. Box 135, Carterville, IL 62918. Envelopes will also be available at the church.
They are survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Jean and Ronald Hastings of Centralia; grandchildren, Heather Hastings and Jeremi Hastings; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Lindsey, Fallon Hastings, Hunter Hastings, Tristen Hastings, Hannah Knott and Sophie Knott; nieces, Patty Meade, Mary Jane Wiggs, Pamela George, Jackie McWilliams, Brenda Richardson and Lynn Marie Reed; nephews, Jim Stocks, Tim Stocks, Gene Smith, John Scarpanito, Jeffery Scarpanito and Gary Michael Richardson; and Gene's special great-nieces and nephews, Emily Dunn, Paige Stocks and Matthew Stocks.
They were both preceded in death by their parents and granddaughter, Dawn Hastings; along with Gene's relatives including sisters, Ruth Watkins, Margaret Catherine Scarpanito and Darla Sue Smith; brothers, James Stocks, Clay Stocks and Jack Stocks; and first wife, Betty May; and Lamoria's relatives including sister, Maria Forster and brothers, Leroy Burguss, Robert Lee and John Richardson.
Gene co-owned and operated Food Land Grocery Store in Carterville for many years. He also was a meat cutter for SIU for more than 25 years.
Gene honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving overseas in the Pacific.
He was a member of Carterville Lions' Club, Merchants Association and enjoyed hunting. Gene was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and belonged to Williamson Lodge 802 in Carterville.
Lamoria worked at Good Luck Glove Factory, American Magnetics and Sangamon Electric for several years; as well as beside Gene on their farm.
She loved cooking and enjoyed sewing and doing needlework.
They were both members of the First Christian Church in Carterville.
