Floyd Foertsch Obituary

COULTERVILLE - Floyd C. Foertsch, 88, passed away peacefully at 11:03 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011, at his home.

He was born May 22, 1922, in rural Sparta, a son to Andrew and Maggie (Rheinhardt) Foertsch. On Aug. 6, 1947, he married Genevieve Bouas in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and she preceded him in death Aug. 18, 1988.

Floyd was a farmer and a pioneer in organic farming, a member of the National Farm Organization and a founding member of the Pilgrim Wildlife District. He was elected constable for two terms in Perry County and then was appointed special deputy for Perry County Sherriff's Department in the mid-1950s.

He enjoyed baseball and dearly loved spending time in the woods and observing wildlife.

Floyd is survived by his special friend and companion, Frances Athy of Coulterville; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Vernon and William; and two sisters, Mae and Flora.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Bethel Cemetery in Swanwick, with Paul Horn officiating. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Bethel Cemetery in Swanwick.

Pyatt Funeral Home in Coulterville is in charge of arrangements.
