MURPHYSBORO -- Gussie A. Brunty, 90, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Gussie was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Pomona to Charles and Hattie (Fleming) Grammer.
She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
Mrs. Brunty was an administrative assistant at SIUC in the microbiology department and later in the curriculum instruction and media department.
Gussie was an avid gardener and a mid-century collector.
She married Bill Brunty on June 28, 1947, in Murphysboro, and he survives.
Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and Debra Brunty of Broomfield, Colo.; one sister, Inez Blessing of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
