Helen Cheatham Obituary

AVA -- Helen E. Cheatham, 92, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro.

She was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Jackson County, the daughter of Roscoe V. Harrouff and Pearl (McBride) Harrouff.

Helen married Ezra Cheatham on July 8, 1935, in Ava. He passed away Sept. 26, 1984.

She is survived by her son, Wilford E. Cheatham of Marion; daughter, Barbara Qualls of Joliet; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandsons, two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Phoebe Barringer of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Geraldine Mainland of Escondido, Calif.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Doris Jean Qualls; four grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.

She was a homemaker and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Post Oak in Campbell Hill and the St. John's quilters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, in Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with the Rev. Kathryn Bielfeldt officiating. Burial will be in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Wilson's Funeral Home and on Saturday from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.

Ezra and Family

I saw your Mother nearly everyday going to see my Momma. She was a lady with very few words. I always would say Hi. We are never ready to give them up reguardless how old they are. You have my sympathy and may God give you peace and comfort during your grief.
