Joe Jaroski Obituary

DU QUOIN -- Joe Jaroski, 86, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at his residence.

Joe had been a driller, roof bolter and hoist operator for the coal mines. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper. He was a member of UMWA, Du Quoin American Legion, Callmakers Association, Rod and Gun Club and an avid duckcall maker.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Dowell, the son of Joe and Flossie (Privitt) Jaroski.

He married Clara V. Mifflin on July 2, 1947, in Du Quoin, and she preceded him in death Aug. 7, 1990.

He then married Janice Short Dennis on Oct. 9, 1996, in Union, Tenn., and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; son, Kevin Jaroski and Lynn Eaton of Du Quoin; two stepsons, Roger Dennis of Du Quoin and Dan Dennis of Huffman, Texas; four grandsons, Justin Jaroski and Dustin Jaroski and wife, Amanda, all of Du Quoin, Evan Dennis and Tyler Dennis, both of Texas; two granddaughters, Madison Dennis and Morgan Dennis, both of Du Quoin; two sisters, Jean Simon of Du Quoin and Delores Bohnert of Percy; sister-in-law, Joyce Jaroski of Dowell; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and two brothers, Melvin Jaroski and Leroy Jaroski.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Father Nick Junker and the Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by Du Quoin American Legion and VFW.

Friends may make memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
