Louise Atchison Obituary

BENTON -- Louise Atchison, 101, passed away Tuesday morning, May 10, 2011, in Helia Healthcare in Benton.

She was born June 22, 1909, in rural Whittington, the daughter of Riley and Mary Ann (Duff) House.

She married William (Willie) Atchison on Sept. 5, 1928, and he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1993.

Mrs. Atchison was a unique individual, in that when she and her husband married, his family truly became her family. Family was so important to her. She loved, cherished and enjoyed each one of them. She was the matriarch of her family and also was an excellent cook.

Mrs. Atchison is survived by her daughter, Winnie VanHorn and husband, Wilbur, of Benton; daughter-in-law, Sally Burton Atchison of Decatur; grandchildren, Lynette Ing and husband, Weldon, of Benton; Holly Mowry and husband, Eric, of Decatur; Lisa Moore and husband, Hugh, of Benton; Brandon Atchison of Decatur; Brian VanHorn and wife, Laurel, of Benton, Ky., great-grandchildren, Wesley Ing and wife, Kristin, of Benton, Lyndsey Moore of West Frankfort, Whitney Swift and husband, Rob, of Benton, Megan Harris and husband of Decatur, Lauren Johnson and husband, Brent, of Belleville, Jimmy Atchison of Decatur, Allison, Morgan and Michael Mowry, all of Decatur; Will and Ella VanHorn of Benton Ky.; one great-great-grandchild, Westin Ing.

Mrs. Atchison was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Jim Atchison, one great-granddaugther, Erin Mowry, brothers and sisters, Raymond House, Alberta Young, Muriel Winemiller, Evelyn Kelley and Bud House.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Holly and Eric Mowry officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Thursday in Morton and Johnson Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Franklin Hospital, Helia Healthcare and Hospice of Southern Illinois for the wonderful care they gave to Mrs. Atchison.
