Marvin Talbert Obituary

COULTERVILLE -- Marvin Edward Talbert, 84, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 15, 2011, in Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Nashville.

Marvin was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Belleville, the son of Joshua and Catherina (Martin) Talbert. On May 26, 1945, he married Ruth Meyer in Belleville, and she survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Marvin retired after 42 years with Illinois Power as a tree trimmer foreman. He was a member of Coulterville VFW Post 6865 and IBEW.

He loved hunting, fishing and watching the kids play sports, and he was a great storyteller.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Coulterville; son, Tom (LeeAnn) Talbert of Coulterville; daughter, Betty (Carl) Smith of Coulterville; sister, Joan (Raymond) Spinnie of Coulterville; six grandchildren, Cathy Smith, Vicki Little, Joe and Jim Talbert and Michael and Jason Presswood; four stepgrandchildren, Shannon Inman, Shaun Smith and Maria and Matt Smith; six great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marvin "Eddie" Talbert Jr.; sister, Shirley Petrick; two brothers, Norman and Harland Talbert; and one brother in infancy, Raymond Talbert.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, in Pyatt Funeral Home in Coulterville, with the Rev. Eunjoo Lee officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by Coulterville VFW Post 6865. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Coulterville Youth Association.
