Steve Gereci Obituary
Steve was born July 5, 1929, in Zeigler, to Stanley and Mary Teresa (Rusic) Gereci.
He married Betty Lou Stone on Sept. 22, 1969, in Zeigler. She survives in Zeigler.
Other survivors include a stepson and daughter-in-law, Carl Richard "Dick" and Donna Puckett of Du Quoin; a granddaughter and her husband, Angela and Eddie Krelo of Elkville; two great-granddaughters, Alex and Olivia Krelo of Elkville; and a sister, Ann Williams of West Frankfort.
His parents; two sisters, Kathryn Ruzic and Mary Sicich; and a brother, John, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Gereci was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Zeigler American Legion, Patrick McClellan Post 177. He retired as a porcelain painter from Norge Industries in Herrin in July of 1991 and enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing.
Funeral services for Mr. Gereci will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, in East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Energy, with Brother Denton Vaughn officiating and military grave side rites courtesy of Zeigler and Orient American legions, the West Frankfort VFW and a Marion National Guard flag detail. A visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Gereci are suggested to Southern Illinois Hospice Inc., 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959 or the American Cancer Society.

Steve was a great guy. We camped and fished with him many times in Land Betrween the Lakes. He will be missed by all of us.

I cry each time I see the notice that an old well loved friend has passed away. Popeye and I fished swam, hunted, hogged carp for sale from the Big Muddy, and camped together. He always made sure he had a chance to talk to me when I came home to Zeigler on a visit
