HERRIN -- Richard Allen Cornell, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, in Herrin Hospital.

Mr. Cornell was born in Hurst, to Ralph and Elsie (Eaves) Cornell; they preceded him in death.
Mr. Cornell was owner of Cornell Agency in Herrin. He accepted Christ early in life. He attended Church of Christ in Herrin, and was a 50-year member of Herrin Masonic Lodge 693. He married Dolores (Maxey) Cornell on July 11, 1946; she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Gregory and wife, Deborah Cornell, of Herrin, Ronald Cornell of Johnston City and Curtis and wife, Deanna, of Mascoutah; and one daughter, Tamara and husband, Stanley Hovenga, of Carterville; and eight grandchildren, Douglas and wife, Stephanie Cornell, Ryan and wife, Amy Cornell, Christopher Cornell, Kyle Cornell, Adam Hovenga, Andrew and wife, Teresa Ho-venga, Aaron and Janice Hovenga and Lindsey and husband, Brian Adams; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cornell was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and infant son, Scott Taylor Cornell. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. Sunday by Herrin Prairie Lodge 693.
