SESSER - Ralph E. Olguin, 70, of Girard, formerly of Sesser, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Ralph was born April 22, 1942, a son of Frank and Alice (Weir) Olguin.
Ralph married Rosalie Spann and later married Patricia (Maguire) Bounds Jan. 4, 1989, in Green River, Wyo.
Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam.
He worked 44 years as a coal miner, starting at Old Ben 2 in Sesser, and then he worked at Freeman United Coal Mine in Farmersville and ended mining at The Oak Grove Mine in Heweytown, Ala. While in Sesser, Ralph worked as a policeman for 14 years and as a volunteer fireman. Ralph was currently serving as Ward 2 alderman in Girard, vice president for the Girard Chamber of Commerce, secretary for Prairieland Ambulance Board of Directors and president of the Girard Community Center.
Surviving Ralph is his wife, Patricia Olguin of Girard; daughters, Melody (companion, Bobbie Ruffing) Olguin of Murphysboro, Anita (Gary) Wilson of Ramsey and Sherri White of Virden; sons, Frank Olguin of Green River, Wyo. and Robert Olguin of Sesser; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepsons, Daniel (Colleen) Bounds of Cary and David Bounds of Virden; sisters, Janae Holmes of Carson City, Nev., Maritta (George) Frost of Lodi, Calif. and Erin Crabson of Stagecoach, Nev.; a brother, Harold Larrigan of Palmer, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home in Girard, with the Rev. Norlyn Crandall officiating. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Girard Community Center or to Prairieland Ambulance, Virden.
