MURPHYSBORO - Gilbert Ray Koenig, 81, passed away at 12:04 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at his daughter's residence in Seabrook, Texas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 9, in Pettett Funeral Home. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 127, VFW Posts 7190 and 2605, and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69. Friends may call until 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gilbert was born May 3, 1931, in Murphysboro, to Joe Koenig and Martha Lucille (Ellis) Koenig.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Gilbert was retired as a telephone repairman, working for 45 years.
Mr. Keonig was a member of the Mount Carbon Christian Church in Murphysboro, a member of the IBEW, the VFW Post 7190 and the American Legion Post 127.
Gilbert married Sarah Eva (McDaniel) June 2, 1956, in Murphysboro, and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Luann Ostrom and her husband, Carl Ostrom of Seabrook, Texas, and Karla Koenig of Moweaqua; two sisters, Pat Varner and her husband, Kenneth Varner, and Darlene Porter and her husband, Mike Porter, all of Murphysboro; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou (McDaniel) Hughes of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law and father- in-law.
