BELKNAP - Bettajean Hester, 78, Passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at 10:15 a.m. in Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis.

Bettajean was born May 11, 1934, in Vienna. She was the daughter of Joseph E. and Dimple (Comer) Cheek.

Bettajean was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Ray Hester, on Jan. 27, 1952, in First Baptist Church in Vienna. Together, they enjoyed more than 58 years of marriage, prior to Kenneth Ray's passing Sept. 9, 2010.

Survivors include a son, David and Janet Hester; grandchildren, Paul Blankenship, Jason and Jolene Thimoleas, Heather Renee VanZile, Amanda Hester, Brandi Short, Brittany Johnson, Bridgett McMurtry and Bergendi Johnson; great-grandchildren, Alyssia, Serenity and Devan VanZile, Sadie Rogers, Jayden Thimoleas and Aiden Hester; a son-in-law, Jim Blankenship; sisters-in-law, Norma Hodge and Janice Huckelberry; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bettajean was preceded in death by two daughters, Lucinda Rae Thimoleas and Carla Jane Blankenship; a granddaughter, Diane Lee Blankenship; and three brothers, James Lloyd Cheek, Joseph Comer Cheek and Raymond Cheek.

Bettajean was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church near Cypress. Bettajean enjoyed ballroom dancing, camping and flower gardening. She was a voracious reader.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with Pastor Jay Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
