MURPHYSBORO -- E R. "Rip" Tomlinson Jr., 80, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, in Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro.

E. R. was born on April 3, 1933, in Huntsville, Ala., to E. R. "Rip" Tomlinson Sr. and Pearl (Syler) Tomlinson.
He served during the Korean conflict in the U. S. Army.
Before he retired, Mr. Tomlinson taught typing and general business at Murphysboro High School for 33 years.
Rip loved to go to auctions and he was an auctioneer.
He married Pauline Calandro on Aug. 25, 1961, and she preceded him in death June 27, 2013. Her cremains will be buried with him.
Rip is survived by two children, Rip Tomlinson III and his wife, Nikki Tomlinson, and Lori Tomlinson, all of Murphysboro; and two grandsons, Darren Tomlinson and Ripley Tomlinson, both of Murphysboro.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mona Marcec; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pettett Funeral Home. Gravesite military services will be conducted by American Legion Post 127, VFW Posts 7190 and 2605 and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69 and will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
