MERIDEN - Desmond Joseph Jenkins, 30, of Meriden, died Friday Nov. 11, 2011, in his home.

He was born July 24, 1981, at the Meriden/Wallingford Hospital in Meriden. He was the son of Brenda Garrison, stepson to Clive Garrison and son to Ray Charles Rich. He was also father to LeBron Jenkins and god-father to Ja'Lexia West both of Meriden. Desmond attended high school at Orville H. Platt High School in Meriden. Where he played basketball for all of his high school career and graduated in the year 2000. He also attended Naugatuck Valley community college in Waterbury, Gateway Community College in New Haven and Brio Academy. He had a big passion for basketball which he enjoyed playing in his free time and volunteered at the Meriden YMCA coaching basketball to the youth. He was a lifelong member at Apostolic Community Church of Jesus Christ and Ministries Inc. but attended Faith Center of Meriden.

Desmond is survived by his maternal grandmother Annie, of Meriden. He also leaves two sisters and spouses, Marquetta and Darrel, of San Diego, Calif., and Lovey and Jacques of Norfolk, Va., and a brother, Ray Jenkins, of New Britain. He is also survived by two nieces; and five nephews. He also leaves aunts and spouses, Gloria and Lee, of Lithonia, Ga., Joan Jenkins, of Ga., Sarah Mitchell, of Middletown, Annie McLeod, of Meriden and a host of aunts and uncles; as well as many, many cousins. Predeceased by his maternal grandfather Jimmy McLeod.

Contributions and donations may be made to his son LeBron Jenkins in care of Brenda Garrison to establish a trust fund at the time of funeral. A ceremony of celebration of life will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Apostolic Community Church of Jesus Christ & Ministries of Meriden, 146 Center St., Meriden, Conn. Calling hours from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Services of comfort entrusted to McClam Funeral Home, 95 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, Conn., 06511.
