MERIDEN - Marcel "Frenchy" P. Hamelin, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Middlesex Hospital.

Born on May 15, 1923, in Troisrivieres, Canada he was the son of the late Arthur and Marie (Goodrich) Hamelin. Frenchy was a longtime resident of Meriden. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Frenchy was employed by the City of Meriden as a supervisor for the Housing Authority until his retirement. He was an avid roller skater, winning several medals.

Mr. Hamelin is survived by his children, Dale-Marie Cirillo, Robert Hamelin and Thomas Hamelin all of Meriden; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his former wife and best friend until the end, Irene Hamelin. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Maurice Hamelin; and a sister, Evette Morrissette.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, March 27, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. Military honors will be accorded at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. To send an online expression of sympathy please visit
